CALCULATING CALENDARS

DESCRIPTION:
Note: This is a difficult activity and is most appropriate for 9-12th grade students. Students assume the role of secretary to the Minister of Time to perform calendar calculations.

Uses math calculation to investigate various cultures' (past and present) preception of calendar time.

Helps build an understanding of geography and physical time.

OBJECTIVES:
1.  To help students understand the origin of our modern calendar and its relationship to calendars of other cultures and times.

2.  To develop math, science, and geography skills in determining calendar calculation and physical origin (location).
